Alternative Service Provision: Tile Advertisements on the Paris Métro

There’s no The Beauty of Transport article this week; normal service resumes next Wednesday. In the meantime, though, how about an alternative read? This week, American art tile historian Michael Padwee‘s blog Architectural Tiles, Glass and Ornamentation in New York spread its wings with an article about tiled adverts on the Paris Métro.

These beautiful adverts, made of ceramic tiles, are a subject I knew nothing about, and the article is quite fascinating. I’m – ahem – quoted in the article in terms of more general station tiling on the Métro, but the rest of the article is splendid.
